SHMS GENERALS Wrestling
ABOUT SHMS GENERALS WRESTLING
Thank you for your interest in the Spring Hill Middle School Wrestling team. Since its inception, SHMS Wrestling has developed a strong tradition of excellence. As the sport of wrestling continues to grow in Tennessee, we are thrilled to represent Spring Hill Middle School.
Wrestling is a sport for everyone—boys and girls alike. Girls' wrestling is one of the fastest-growing sports at both the high school and collegiate levels, offering incredible opportunities for young athletes.
The TMSAA wrestling season begins in October and runs through mid-December, culminating in the TMSAA State Championships.
FINAL FORMS REQUIREMENT
All SHMS wrestlers must be registered in Final Forms to participate in the season. This ensures proper documentation of physical, waivers, and emergency contacts. Please visit Maury County Final Forms to complete the required registration for your wrestler.
Wrestlers will not be allowed to participate in practices or matches until all forms have been completed.
TMSAA Weight Classes
The official TMSAA weight classes are as follows:
75lbs, 82lbs, 90lbs, 98lbs, 106lbs, 114lbs, 122lbs, 130lbs, 138lbs, 145lbs, 155lbs, 170lbs, 185lbs, 215lbs, 260lbs
For more information on TMSAA weight classes, visit the TMSAA website.
Please note that occasional weight allowances (up to 1lb) may be granted based on scheduling, but wrestlers should always prepare as though no allowance will be provided.
PRACTICE POLICY
Attendance at every practice and match is essential. The only acceptable exceptions are:
Missing practice or matches for other sports-related functions requires prior discussion with the coaching staff.
Practice Schedule:
Injured wrestlers are expected to attend practices and matches to support their team unless otherwise excused by a doctor.
MATCH DAY EXPECTATIONS
Wrestlers are expected to arrive 15 minutes prior to weigh-ins and remain with the team until released after exhibition matches. On the bench, wrestlers should focus on supporting their teammates and preparing for their own matches.
Parents are encouraged to remain in the stands and avoid distracting their wrestlers during matches. Wrestlers must adhere to a code of conduct consistent with the values of SHMS Athletics, ensuring that our program serves as a model for sportsmanship and professionalism.
WRESTLING EQUIPMENT
Each wrestler will be issued a Spring Hill singlet for matches. Singlets must be returned at the end of each event unless the wrestler owns their own. Wrestlers must also have:
HYGIENE AND SAFETY
Wrestlers must shower immediately after every practice or match to prevent skin infections. Mats will be sanitized at the beginning of every practice. Any potential skin infections must be reported immediately, and wrestlers will not be cleared to compete without proper medical documentation.
CONTINUING WITH THE MAT DOGS
At the conclusion of the TMSAA season, wrestlers are encouraged to continue competing with the Spring Hill Mat Dogs Wrestling Club. This program runs from November through early March, offering additional practice and individual tournaments against top competition across Tennessee and neighboring states. The Mat Dogs program focuses on individual skill development to prepare wrestlers for future seasons with SHMS Wrestling.
For more information about the Mat Dogs, please contact the SHMS coaching staff prior to the end of the season.
