Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we move into the final stretch of the school year, I want to take a moment to thank our families for your continued partnership and support. It truly takes a village to help our students grow, learn, and succeed—and we are grateful for the role you play each and every day.
As we head into spring, it’s important to revisit and reinforce a few key school expectations so that we can finish the year strong and maintain a safe, focused learning environment for all students.

Schoolwide Expectations
Please take a few minutes to review our Schoolwide Expectations Matrix with your child. The matrix can be found in the student handbook on SHMS's website. These expectations guide behavior across all areas of our school—from the classroom to the cafeteria—and help create a positive, respectful environment for everyone.

Water Bottles
Students may bring clear, plastic water bottles only. This helps us maintain a safe and secure environment while still allowing students to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Dress Code
As the weather warms up, please remind your child to follow the school dress code. Clothing should be appropriate for a learning environment—free from rips, holes, and appropriate lengths. Students out of compliance will be asked to contact a parent or guardian for appropriate attire or change into clothing provided by the school.

Electronic Devices
Students may possess wireless communication devices, such as cell phones, earbuds, and headphones, but these must be turned off and stored away for the entirety of the school day. The policy minimizes distractions and supports academic engagement. Devices used during the day without permission will be collected and returned at the end of the day or to a parent, depending on the situation.

Together, we can help our students stay focused, responsible, and respectful as we close out the school year. Thank you for reinforcing these expectations at home and for being our partners in education.
Let’s finish the year strong—together!

Warm regards,

Becky Malugin, Principal

TNReady Testing Update: Showcasing Our Growth at Spring Hill Middle School
The Tennessee Department of Education has announced a one-week delay in this year’s TNReady testing due to Winter Storm Fern. As a result, testing will now begin on April 21.
The TNReady assessment measures student progress in English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Most importantly, it reflects the academic growth our students have made at Spring Hill Middle School throughout the year. This is a valuable opportunity for students to demonstrate just how much they’ve learned and accomplished.
At SHMS, we want to emphasize that this test is not just about a score—it’s about showcasing progress. Our teachers and students have worked extremely hard all year long, and this is their chance to shine!

How Parents Can Help at Home:
  • Encourage consistent attendance. Being present each day helps students stay on track and confident.
  • Reduce screen time in the evenings to allow time for rest and focus.
  • Maintain regular bedtime routines so students are well-rested and ready to learn.
  • Promote a positive mindset. Remind your child that effort and attitude make all the difference.
  • Encourage 100% effort. Simply doing their best is what matters most!
Together, we can help our students approach TNReady with confidence and pride. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we finish the year strong.

Let’s show Maury County what Spring Hill Middle School students can do!

TOP Scores

Celebrating Academic Excellence!

Congratulations to our 8th grade students who scored a 21 or higher on the PreACT! These outstanding 20 students rank among the top 120 students in all of Maury County and are now eligible to take the official ACT free of charge, funded through Maury County’s CTE Innovative Schools Model grant.

A PreACT score of 21 or above is a strong indicator of future academic success—showing that these students are on track for college readiness and well-positioned to achieve similar or higher results on the ACT. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication!
Athletics

Spring Has Sprung—and So Have Spring Sports!

The season of growth, sunshine, and school spirit is here—spring has officially sprung at Spring Hill Middle School! Our spring sports are in full action, and excitement fills the air across our fields and courts.

This season, boys’ soccer, baseball, softball, and track and field are all underway. There’s hardly a night without a game or practice as our student-athletes and coaches dedicate their time, energy, and teamwork to representing SHMS with pride.

We invite all of our stakeholders—parents, grandparents, students, and community members—to come out and support our teams. Your cheers from the stands mean the world to our athletes and help fuel their success both on and off the field.

If you have any questions about a specific sport schedule, please reach out to our Athletic Director, Mrs. Grant, at mgrant@mauryk12.org or visit the school's website.

Let’s celebrate the effort, sportsmanship, and spirit of our SHMS athletes as they make this spring season one to remember.

Go, Generals!

Moving on UP!

Rising 4th Graders

It’s an exciting time of year at Spring Hill Middle School as we begin preparing to welcome a new class of students! We are in the final stages of helping 4th graders from Marvin Wright Elementary School and Spring Hill Elementary School begin the transition from elementary to middle school.

Our 7th and 8th grade Student Ambassadors, along with school counselors and ambassador sponsors Ms. Childers and Mrs. Grant, are eager to visit these future Generals during the last two weeks of March. During these visits, they’ll share what life at middle school is really like—answering questions, offering encouragement, and helping to ease any worries about this exciting new chapter.

In May, the 4th graders will have the opportunity to visit Spring Hill Middle School for a building tour and an introduction to their 5th grade team of teachers. This hands-on experience helps them become familiar with their new school and builds excitement for the year ahead.

We encourage parents that may have questions or concerns to reach out to our 5th grade counselor, Mrs. Kilgour @ kkilgour@mauryk12.org or 5th grade team lead, Ms. McMahon @ rmcmahon@mauryk12.org.

Departing 8th Graders
While this is an exciting time for our incoming students, we are also sad to think about saying goodbye to our fantastic 8th grade students, yet we are thrilled to celebrate their next milestone: becoming high schoolers! Parents, hold on tight and don’t blink—the next few months are packed with 8th grade events. Below is a list of key events so you can begin marking your calendars and making preparations:

  • March 17: 8th grade Night @ Spring Hill High
  • May 14: 8th grade Dance (more information forthcoming)
  • May 15: 8th grade Picinic
  • May 20: 8th grade Graduation

We’re so proud of our students—both our soon-to-be Generals and our graduating soon to be high schoolers. It’s a season of growth, celebration, and exciting transitions at Spring Hill Middle School!
